Throughout the years Thailand has become a haven for numerous refugees escaping the monstrosities and oppression in Burma.  Although Thailand was gracious enough to supply schools and land, refugees are still suffering from water contamination.  A viable solution is available as solar powered water purification systems are being set up in the communities and outlying refugee camps.  These systems are free standing and have been installed with solar panels that can be used to create energy and eradicate various bacteria and harmful organisms found in the water.  A battery is implanted into the system to be used as a backup when the sun is not out.  This system can produce an ample amount of clean water for the community.  This is a very advantageous technology as it increases the quality of life of the citizens and refugees by reducing the risk of sickness from infected drinking water.  In this system the water obtained is poured through a PVC pipe where it is exposed to ultraviolet rays, exterminating harmful bacteria. This system is innovative and revolutionary as it can process the water at a relatively fast rate and can subsequently greatly impact the community in a positive way.  This solar power system is also very easy to manage. A group of the locals were trained on how to clean and maintain this product.  The solar power is very reliable which is important in Thailand as the civilization is not as technologically advanced as our cities in America.  Therefore the solar technologies are vital for the success of the community and the health of the individuals especially when used for the water purification systems.  This may turn out to be the first step in harnessing solar energy  for other community uses.
